Period Stories

One when I was in seventh grade, I went to school without going to the bathroom at my house first around the time that I was supposed to get my period. So, I went to school, and I was like "I think I got my period..." And sure enough I did, but luckily I had a pad in my bag. Which is why having a Period Emergency Kit is important. Because it saved me!

This was the first time I had ever gotten my period and I noticed while I was going to the bathroom before going to a track meet. And I was just like shit. My mom had just left and I didn't know what to do. So, I just took a wad of toilet paper and went to the track meet and did horribly. Then to top all that off, my friend invited me to go swimming and my mom said yes, and I didn't know what to do to go swimming so I said no and my mom had to cancel last minute. And when I ended up telling my mom, she was mad...

When I got my period for the first time, I thought it only lasted for a few days. And I was completely bummed that it lasted for up to 7 days.

Feel free to share some of your period stories in the comments! I hope you enjoyed these 7 days of posting.

Alternatives for Pads and Tampons

There are many different ways to go about dealing with your period and pads and tampons are only a few of the many options there are.

Free Bleeding:
For many this is definitely not one of the more comfortable options because it is not what we are used to. But I saw a YouTube video of it, and well, it's an alternative.

Menstrual Cups:

This is basically a cup that can be reused and inserted and is similar to a tampon, except it hold the blood in a cup like shape instead of being absorbed. I have heard that the Diva Cup is the best kind of Menstrual cup.

Period Panties:

I saw this in a YouTube video again, and it is basically a pad in the shape of an underwear. That again, can be reused.

I'm sorry this post is pretty short. I was just relaxing and going about my day thinking I had already written this blog post, but then I finished watching the Bachelor and thought I would double check that I actually did post. And turns out I didn't so now I'm rushing and trying to get this out. (probably not the best idea) If you are reading this, have a great day/night or whatever time it is when you are reading. Sorry this cam out very late again.

Period Box

I was watching YouTube the other day and I came across this video about the Period Box. I thought it was such a great idea. It's like a care package, but for your period.

I thought it was such an amazing idea. And you can also find so many more options of period boxes online if you search "Period Box".

I'm sorry this post is very short. I am tired from hard swim practice, and I feel like the period box concept is pretty self explanatory. There are 2 more posts left in 7 days of period posting! As I said in yesterday's post, feel free to comment more period tips or things you want me to post about.

How to: Avoid Stains and Wash them

Period stains are so annoying. Whether you get them while you sleep, overflow, or get a surprise. So today, I am going to be helping you all with ways to avoid your stains or wash them out. In a past post, I talked about knowing when your period is going to arrive, instead of being surprised by it. Go check it out: How to: Keep Track of your Period

Avoiding Stains:

Proper Tampon Wear:
When wearing a tampon, it is important to be wearing a pad with your tampon. Sometimes people wear just a tampon without anything on the underwear and they end up staining their underwear.

A panty liner can be good sometimes if it is a light day. If you are on a heavy day with a tampon and a panty liner, things don't usually end well.

With a pad, if you bleed through your whole tampon, there will still be a large enough absorbent surface to catch your blood.

Also it is a good idea to change your tampon every few hours instead of every 7-8 hours.

Pads for Nighttime:
I recommend getting some of the pads that are extra long and absorbent for the night. But the price of all those period products does add up.

An alternative to this, is using a regular pad but using panty liners to create an extension of your normal pad. This will act as the extra extension on the night pad but created with things you already have. 2 normal pads could work too, but it's a bit more wasteful.

Washing your Stained Clothing:

Soap:
Using soap to wash out stains is most likely the cheapest option. Although, this method works best when the stain is "fresh", instead of a stain that is a few days or weeks old.
1. Wet the area of the stain
2. Add soap to the stained area
3. Rub intensely and occasionally wash the area and add more soap if needed

Stain Remover:
There are those stain remover sticks and I have found them quite effective. Follow the instructions on the stick and this should work well. I have not used this method in a really long time so I don't really remember how it works. If you use this method, it would be nice if you commented below to let others know how it works.

Bleach:
This only works for white things and I would only recommend doing this method for white pants and I wouldn't really recommend doing it for your underwear. I have never trued this method before but I have seen my parents use bleach to get stains out of white shirts. So it should work right? I would ask an adult about using bleach and please be careful with it.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and found this week of posting everyday so far to be useful. Come back tomorrow at 12:00pm EST for another period post. Let me know of any topics you want to cover and I can write a post about them in the future.

Have a wonderful day,

The Struggle: Of being on your Period

The Struggle is really real when it comes to your period. There is so much you need to think and worry about. And no guy will ever understand the annoyance and pain of a period. Not to mention, period products are sometimes even marked as luxury products in some states in the US. RIDICULOUS! Having your period is absolutely not a luxury. There is so much money that goes into periods. Underwear, pads, tampons, panty liners, Advil, etc. All of that adds up and gets SUPER expensive. And along with that, there are wayyyy too many options. When you don't know what to buy, you might buy the wrong thing, too little, or too much.(which can't be a bad thing) But companies have a billion options of the same product. For example, tampons. You have cardboard applicator, plastic applicator, size light, regular, super, and extra super. And if you leave your tampon in for too long you have a risk of getting toxic shock syndrome. (So don't leave in your tampon for more than 8 hours maximum. Try to remove it or replace before then.) And the STAINS! Ugh! The most annoying thing on earth. You could be wearing your favorite underwear and not know your period is coming and then you go to the bathroom and SURPRISE! You've got your period and your favorite underwear is destroyed. Yes, periods do sometimes come unexpectedly. Check out my first post on the 7 days of period posting to learn how to prevent surprises. And don't even get me started with the horror of bleeding through. It's every girl's nightmare. And when it happens at school wearing light colored pants. That is just so unfortunate. *Your heavy day is usually on the second or third day so plan your outfits and "gear" accordingly* And then there is also acne that comes with your period too, and cramps, and mood swings, basically every guy's nightmare.

I know this post was pretty rant-y but the past 2 posts were pretty bad. Sorry, I am about to go on vacation for a week so there were lots of tests and quizzes. Come back tomorrow at 12:00pm EST for a new period post.

How to: Keep Track of your Period

Hey Ladies! If you are struggling with that time of the month right now, just did, are are about to, I am here to help. I am going to bless your soul with 7 days of posting of ways to help with your period. If your a guy, these posts will most likely be of no interest for you, sorry! 😐
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So really whenever you have your period, mark on your calendar with a little symbol like a red dot or start for each day. Then your period happens every 30-ish days. (it depends on each person) so count 30 days into the future and expect your period to come around that time. So to be ready, a few days before, start wearing pads or pantie liners so if your period comes before 30 days you will be ready.

Also your period should last for about 7 days. If you think that your period has ended before 7 days, continue wearing a pad or something. The majority of the period disaster stories I hear are that someone thought their period was over and then they got surprised.

I'm sorry this post is pretty short. I mean there is nothing much to elaborate on when it comes to just being prepared and keeping track of your period. Come back again tomorrow for another exciting post!!

Valentines Day DIY

Valentines Day is in 2 days. And to be honest, I was so close to not making this post. But then I thought, No. I have time, this is a perfect thing to do. I made this post yesterday, and I had a swim meet yesterday and today, and I woke up at 5:30am both days. So I have been pretty wiped. I'm just praying that there is going to be a snow day tomorrow so I can sleep in.

3D Conversation Heart:

Difficulty: πŸŽ¨πŸŽ¨πŸŽ¨πŸŽ¨πŸŽ¨

Supplies✂:
-Paper
-Scissors
-Glue/Tape
-Markers

StepsπŸ“˜:
1. Cut out 2 hearts that are the same size out of a piece of paper
2. Write a phrase on one of the hearts
3. Cut a strip to whatever width you want
4. Cut small rectangles to attach the strip to the heart
5. Attach the strip to the hearts on either side

Ta Da! You have yourself a 3D conversation heart. If you want you can put items inside or just leave it just like that and give it to someone.

"Happy Valentines Day" Banner:

Difficulty: 🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨

Supplies✂:
-Paper
-Scissors
-Tape/Glue
-String (optional)
-Markers

StepsπŸ“˜:
1. Cut out 5 hearts for the word "happy", 9 hearts for the word "valentine", and 3 hearts for the word "day"
2. Write a letter on each heart to spell out the phrase
3. There are 2 options:
Taping your hearts to the wall:
-This is a more simple approach by using washi tape to tape this to the wall and then removing it when needed. Although, this method is more of a one time use thing.
Putting your hearts on a string:
-This method takes more time, but in the end it is possibly better because the sign is reusable. Using hot glue to apply the hearts to the string will make your banner last much longer than it will with tape or regular glue.

I hope you enjoyed this post. I didn't put pictures because I wanted you all to be creative and use your imagination to create these DIYs. (Also I was lazy) I tried to make this post as good as possible, I was really tired yesterday and I am still tired today. I'm thinking about a post about my weekend tomorrow or Tuesday? Comment below what you think. AND, I am going to be posting 7 days from Wednesday to the next next Tuesday. And I am going to be posting for 7 days to help the ladies out there with their period. So get Excited!!!!

The Time I Swam in Snow - Snow Day

Yay! Today is my first snow day ever in the 2016-17 school year! For many of you in New England USA, it is probably the same case for you. Today it has been snowing non-stop from the minute I woke up. Honestly, it's amazing. I had waffles for breakfast. And I am so thankful for that, my home, my family, everything. Then I did ALL of my homework. (responsible, I know.) Then I went outside and took some pictures. I tried to take a middle of the road picture and when I stepped one foot on the road, a car was coming so I just decided not to do that. And took pictures of other places in my lame backyard. Then I went outside in my bathing suit yet again. Except last time I went in the snow in my bathing suit was in December. I don't know why I do it, it's just fun. Then later in the day I went sledding with my family and it was so much fun. A while after sledding I watched the secret life of pets. It is such a good movie, I would definitely recommend. And on top of that great day, tomorrow I have a 2 hour delay.

I hope you all enjoyed this post. I wanted to share my day with you all because this was my very first snow day this year. Should I do more daily or weekly posts? Let me know in the comments!

Enjoy the weather,
-Caroline
